About Me
The purpose of my life is to become the person my dog already thinks I am.
I am an ordained Unity minister and Buddhist meditation teacher, and I have taught energy healing methods since 1981. I retired from 35 years as a private practice therapist working with individuals and families. During this time, I was adjunct faculty at the Indiana University School of Social Work and the Indianapolis Gestalt Institute. My passion is to provide training and resources for spiritual communities through talks, workshops, and training events. The greatest gift I can give is teaching methods that heal the illusion of separation between self, other, and the Divine.
Life Influences
Clinical Social Worker
There is so much I can say about this career path. I could integrate everything I love, small groups, energy healing, meditation, and art, into this expression. And even more than this, as a private practice therapist for individuals, couples, and families, I learned to listen and hold space. And when others project their power onto me, I gently hold it, willing to return it as they are willing to integrate.
Unity Minister
I am licensed and ordained with an M.Div. as a Unity minister from Unity Worldwide Ministries. (2020) I had a very clear calling from Jesus Christ. It is quite a story, and I hope I. can share with you how this long-time Buddhist is now a New-Thought minister. I never wanted to be a full-time pulpit minister, therefore, creating my evolving ministry centers in service and community development. I am looking forward to discovering where this leads me next.
Small Groups
Most of my friendship circles evolve from having been in small groups with a spiritual focus. I believe small groups are where we grow. When churches and spiritual groups what to evolve and expand, I want to help them with strategies that promote community in ever-widening circles of small groups.
Energy Healing
The multi-dimensionality of being has fascinated me since childhood. I grew up in the mountains, played with nature spirits, and later became fond of ancient aliens. I have training in numerous energy healing methods, Some of my favorites include Educational Kinesiology, Thought Field Training, Emotional Freedom Technique, and Flower Essence. Neuro Emotional Technique, Reiki Master, Matrix, Kolaimni, and Ho’oponopono. I have taught energy healing since 1981. From my training, intuitive guidance, and clinical experience, I developed a non-touch energy healing form, Flow Energy Healing. It can be used on yourself and with others physically present and at a distance.
Meditation Teacher
In my late twenties, I learned to lead guided imagery meditation. I lead groups in personal growth and development using imagery. I learned how powerful our not-yet-conscious thoughts and feeling are for eliminating thought forms from our true nature.
I gravitated to Buddhism and became certified to teach Mindfulness and Dzogchen, as adapted from 3Doors.org Each method opened me to a deep acceptance of my divinity. I chose a lifestyle that supported attending meditation retreats and often went to 4-6 week-long meditation retreats a year. I am privileged to have trained with excellent meditation teachers; Tenzin Wangyal Rinpoche, H.H. Lungtok Tenpa Nyima Rinpoche, Anum Thubten, Charlotte Joko Beck, Toni Packard, and Marcy Vaughn. I have also been privileged to attend numerous week-long and weekend teachings with the Dalai Lama. I am passionate about teaching meditation. I love to see people awaken and turn inward toward our true nature and let go of the outward search for solutions to daily life. I have taught meditation in various settings—for example, in medical centers, chronic pain centers, academia, and spiritual groups. Now I enjoy teaching in small groups in physical locations and online.
Artist Statement: Nature-Inspired Spiritual Art
As a child in West Virginia, I shared my mother’s love for fiber arts and baking. The rich natural beauty of the land also profoundly influenced me; today, nature remains my emotional buffer and where I feel most spiritually connected. As a creative expression, my paintings were born from my long-term meditation practice and teaching. It only seemed natural to want to create from a meditative place, and my passion for space and color found expression in acrylic, mixed media, and canvas. My paintings follow beauty. Sometimes beauty occurs in the image and the relationship to the canvas's colors. I often bring my easel or sketchbook with me into nature. After sketching, taking notes, colors and photos, I return to my studio and abstract the scene by becoming more interested in capturing the color, light, and emotions with paint and mixed media than with the content of the landscape.
Professionally, I became a clinical social worker and Unity minister. I found it a perfect fit with the deep love of nature and art as creative expression and solutions to many of life’s concerns. Threads are woven throughout my life; my love of nature and a deep spiritual connection to our multi-layered, multidimensional selves are reflected in my art. Giving up control and trusting the creative process, I build layers, sometimes following an image, theme, and light relationships to colors or the flow of the paint. Whatever medium I use, acrylics, oil, ink, watercolor, or collage, I allow an adaptation from my thoughts and ideas to the emergence of color relationship, space, intention, and intuition. By creating the patterns, I look for wholeness. Related to this is my experience of the sacred oneness of life from which we move and have our being. This still, silent spaciousness reflects the luminous quality of my art. Embodied in this process is the ever-present search for enlivening methods to reveal this mystery.
